Greetings,
After thinking about it for a while I’ve finally taken the plunge and entered the world of blogging. I first discovered blogs when we moved to South Africa. The first blog I read was Emily’s blog, Yarn Miracle which I discovered while looking for knitting patterns. It was a whole new world, now I’m reading far too many blogs for my own good. The Gorgeous Man took pity on me today and, while helping me set up the blog also showed me how to to bloglines.
I have to confess I’ve been a bit (ok a lot ) of a lurker. It ’s just that it seems so inane to say ‘oh nice quilt’ or ‘great socks’ to a complete stranger, especially not having a blog – leaves you at a bit of a disadvantage I think. I pledge now that I have a blog I’ll be better at leaving comments.
Wednesday was a public holiday here in the Republic of South Africa – Women’s Day. We went to a braai. A braai is the South African version of a barbeque and they take it very seriously. I’ve been to more braais in the last 8 months than I have in the last 8 years. So here are the photos.
First the view –
This is from the front yard – to the right is False Bay – the edge of Africa, but a tree was in the way for the water shot. Still the mountains are pretty swish.
The men roasted an entire lamb…

and I engaged in some knitting in public. I was very pleased that one of the other girls brought her knitting too. I’m helping her to make the transition from scarf knitting to something that requires shaping.

That’s me in the foreground.
Tomorrow I will show some pictures of an item I’ve completed for my favourite colour swap partner, and my latest quilt top which is nearly done.
Thanks for stopping by.
Ruth

Your pictures are fascinating. I look forward to visiting again to see more of Africa. And welcome to Blogland! Even though the comments seem inane sometimes, it’s really just an acknowledgement that you stopped by to read. You will love to get comments, even if they seem silly, trust me! It’s also a great way for swap pals to get to know you a little better. Have Fun!
Hi Ruth. I followed you here from the comment you left on my blog. Welcome to blogland! I look forward to seeing what you’re working on.
Welcome to blogland, Ruth! I’m loving your blog, and your quilts! Your pic of the view is breathtaking! Thanks!
OMG – that lamb on the spit brings back so many memories from life back in SA. We lived in the same town as ALL our family and we did this for our birthday’s each year. Where about in the Western Cape are you?
Thanks for your comment on my blog–all the way from South Africa
Fun! Congrats on your own new blog, Ruth.
