On Saturday Gorgeous Man turned 35. We took one of our favourite drives down the coastal road to Betty’s Bay. On the way we pulled over and watched the whales migrating – southern right whales I think. That was very cool, no pictures, because they were too far away at the bottom of the cliffs. They were very close to shore and we could hear them huffing and puffing.
Gorgeous Man is a bird watcher and so we headed for the Harold Porter Botanical Garden. Which are very cool. It is set in a valley between two mountains. This was the view from the bench where we ate lunch.
From straight ahead, and this is looking to the right
It’s a very cool garden with a section devoted to traditional Khoi (the Khoi used to be called bushmen) medicine, one of the plants was a wild dagga bush (to use the local name)
We went for a walk and Gorgeous Man was happy because he saw lots of birds, the scenery was just breath-taking mountains on one side and the sea on the other. Another gratuitous mountain shot.
We also got to see more tortoises,
and the baboons came down from the mountains! Baboons can be quite dangerous, but they are really interesting. This is the first time we have seen them on foot – all of our other sightings have been on the side of the road from the car windows. There was a mother with a baby, however, we stayed well away from her. This juvenile came quite close to us, we didn’t approach it.

It was digging up the grass and eating the roots. Then it started tearing up the plants in the garden. I bet the gardeners just love them. lol
All in all we had a great day, and it was just what I needed to get my mind off work.
Back to the grind on Monday though…

A Belated Happy Birthday to Gorgeous Man! What a wonderful day – the photos are really beautiful and the landscape is incredible! Great way to spend a Saturday!
