The weekend was very, very hot. All of my plans for finishing the placemats and finishing my latest charity knit came to nought.
Instead I spent the weekend lying on the couch watching movies, reading and trying to stay cool.
So instead of Finished Objects to show, I’ll update my list of books I’ve read this year instead.
6. The Public Confessions of a Middle-aged Woman (aged 55 3/4)
Sue Townsend – she wrote the Adrian Mole diaries, and this is a collection of articles that she has written for magazines over the years. Quite amusing, but I think you would have to be British (or from the ‘colonies’) to fully appreciate the humour.
7. Fast Decor
A. Mentjes & K. Roos – a local (South African) home decorating book using reclaimed and recycled materials. Mostly pictures. Some of the ideas were good, but a lot was really ugly and, in my mind, impractical.
8. Amazing Grace – a vocabulary of Faith
Kathleen Norris – this was really interesting. I have been reading this one for a while and only had one chapter to finish off.
9. Freakonomics – A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything
Steven D. Levitt & Stephen. J. Dubner – this was fascinating. I usually shy away from anything connected to numbers, but this book is for anyone who has ever wondered why things are the way they are. Some of his findings are controversial, but they made me think.
Thanks to all of you who left comments telling me what you had been reading. There’s a lot of work related reading going on.
Today is cooler, so I’m planning on hitting the sewing machine…

I have the Norris book, but haven’t read it. Like so many others. Sigh.
Of all those, Freakonomics is the only one I have read. I found it a very interesting look at economics!
