Greetings, I’m feeling much better, after hitting a low point on Saturday.
I have a question for all the knitters out there. My hands are getting cold typing on the computer all day and I want to make a pair of fingerless gloves. I’d like to use the Malabrigo yarn that Beth sent.
Does anyone know of a pattern for this yarn?
Do you think Fetching from Knitty would work with Malabrigo - the gauge looks about the same, but I’d need to knit a swatch to be sure.
Any advice or comments, or links to patterns would be appreciated. Just remember that I’m not on Ravelry (I had to make a choice between reading about knitting and actually knitting - knitting won) so I can’t access patterns from there if you leave me a link to one.
I thanking you in advance for your collective wisdom.
I’m so glad you’re feeling better. I think Fetching would be lovely.
I also think that Fetching would be lovely. I knit my Fetchings in some KnitPicks Andean Silk on US-size 6 needles but had to add a repeat to the pattern since my gauge was smaller. I have also knit mittens for Jackson (and a small camera holder for me) in Malabrigo on US-size 5 needles to get a super-thick fabric (for warmth and for strength, respectively) and loved how it turned out. I would think that if you futzed with the needle size and possibly the pattern (if I remember right, Fetching has a pattern repeat in a sequence of 5, easy enough to add or subtract one set of 5 stitches), you’ll come out okay. Good luck!
Malabrigo is a great choice for the fetching mitts - I knit mine with a similar gauge yarn.
On Ravelry, over 150 people used Malabrigo worsted for their fetchings. I made it with the required yarn, and I lengthened both ends to cover more arm area. I would skip the picot edging next time though - didn’t add much to the design and it resulted in the top not being snug enough to my hand. Just a thought.
If you are feeling generous you can knit me some. I have the same problem.
Just to be different, here is another idea - they are called Maine Morning Mitts.

No knitting advice from this non-knitter, but I wanted to say that my fingerless gloves/wristies are my salvation with wintertime typing.
And I’m glad that you’re feeling better!!
My friend Donna was on a fingerless gloves kick. Check out some of what she made for some ideas: http://donnadb.wordpress.com/2008/01/19/we-never-knock-because-nobodys-there/
I really like the Fetching pattern and think it would be perfect for your Malabrigo. The only thing I changed with my pair was the picot bind off to a regular bind off. I didn’t want mine to curl.
I’m just catching up on my blog reading….hope you are feeling completely better now!
I love seeing each block as you quilt them….I must have missed the date with the *deadline* but I can’t wait to see the whole quilt finished.
I only look at Ravelry when I’m choosing a new project. Since I’m very new to knitting, for me, it is a great tool to find patterns, figure out yarn substitutions, etc. I avoid looking at the groups/discussions so don’t end up spend too much time there.
