The African ladies here carry their babies on their backs. I’ve always wanted to get a photo of it, but feel a bit awkward snapping shots of strangers going about their daily business. Well, this week Gorgeous Girl was being a bit fussy, my helper picked her up and walked out of the room and returned like this:

I got her permission to post the picture here. I’m going to ask her to show me how to do it. I think it’s very cool. Gorgeous Girl enjoyed it too.
In quilting news I have 4 and 1/2 blocks to go!! I may get it done by Monday (Monday is guild meeting). I’ll have to go binding shopping tomorrow, I’m pretty sure I don’t have anything in the stash to match, and not enough scraps to do a scrappy binding, but I’ll check that out tonight.
I got a desperately needed haircut on Tuesday. I left the salon feeling fabulous

‘scuse the dodgy self portrait. Unfortunately this look is dependent on a certain level of skill with a blow dryer that I don’t have (and in the wet weather it’s a lost cause anyway), so my hair has reverted to this…

It actually looks better in the picture than it does in real life.
Gorgeous Girl has been wearing her new shirt.

The sleep training is going well. The sleep journal showed that Gorgeous Girl was only feeding for one or two minutes in the obscene early hours of the morning. So we went cold turkey and cut them out. The first night was a bit rough, but last night was much better, and I’m hopeful we’ll see continued improvement tonight as well. I’m expecting it to take about 10 days.
Well that’s about all the news I have to share. With any luck I’ll have a finished – finished quilt to show very shortly. Then knitting and other sewing will resume

Believe it or not I like the natural look better. The salon one was nice though.
Oh congrats with the quilt as well.
All the babies fell happy in the back, i realy don’t know why! But girl, don’t make it to much, becareful with your bobies, hehehehe.
Your hair looks great!
I think the haircut looks great!
We went cold-turkey with both of our kids. It’s brutal the first night, but honestly, with both of them, within about 4 nights they were sleeping through the nights. They’re both great sleepers now. Much better sleepers than I am!
I like the new hair.
She looks so happy back there. Although, I wonder what happens when a baby get bored with the limited view. o.0
1. Your hair looks adorable!!
2. Gorgeous Girl is still adorable too…no surprise there.
3. We helped to wean Jackson from the night feedings by only presenting Daddy when he woke – I just slept through the whole thing while Dad attempted to settle him back down. It was tough on both of them for a while, but the idea was that there was no reason to wake up anymore if you’re JUST going to get your Dad. (Not that he didn’t love cuddling with his Dad, of course…it was more about the removal of the milk from the scenario!) I reasoned that it made perfect sense too, since I spent so many hours getting up in the middle of the night during my pregnancy with Jackson (visiting the toilet, etc.) so it was okay for Daddy to finish out the late-night drills on the back-end. Jackson has slept soundly through the night ever since. Good luck! (And yet, I’m still up each night again…baby #2, here we go!)
You look so glamorous!
I wish my hair had a bit of bounce to it.
I’m going to have to ask you for details on sleep training, but I’ll wait another month … 5 months is a bit young to really stress about it, isn’t it? Even if I feel like a zombie?
All my life I have wished for naturally curly (or even wavy) hair. Both styles look great on you.
Glad the sleep training is going well–you all will feel better once you and Gorgeous Girl are sleeping through the night.
I think your hair looks fantastic – I really should do “something” with mine! GG is so sweet in that top – she’s growing so tall! Keep going with the training, it is SO worth it!
I like it wavy! Well done with the training and that is a lovely photo of her in the sling thing….must have a name? What a beautiful girl your helper is.
Way to go GG! I’ve got to get around to ordering a baby sling – she looks like she is having such a good time. I think your hair is cute curly! We’re in the process of figuring out if Ellie wakes up at six because she wakes up at six (like me) or if she wakes up at six because she is finished sleeping. My hope is that bedtime will gradually shift earlier!
Wow! At last the end is in sight with the quilting!!! Great hair before and after. I love the baby carrying as it’s something I know well, although I’ve not really done it – mine were heavy babies LOL.
What a gorgeous new haircut. Always think a trip to the hairdressers is good for the soul! I always hate to wash it that first time after a visit – it is never the same again, just don’t have the knack for making it look good or the time!!
GG looked so happy on the helpers back , great photo.
Yea for being so close to finishing your quilt!!! I like your hair in both pictures.
Your hair looks fantastic!

Ruth, boy do I know that hair dilemma. I started telling them to cut it so I don;t have to do anything special, because 98% of the time I won’t. Even when I do it doesn;t turn out the way they do it anyway. So curls and waves it is! It really does look good. I even prefer the wavier look.
You are right, that is one gorgeous girlie you have there. Her eyes are beautiful, so deep you could drown in them.
I found you through Chocolate Cat. The bag you made for her is darling. Off to explore a bit more, but am so glad to have found you. Have a great week. Love Stacy
I think your hair looks great both ways. I can’t figure out how you’d get a baby tied onto your back without help…
Can’t wait to see the quilt!
You look great! I just got my hair cut too – I hate how you can’t make it look the same the day after.,,
And I must know how she got her into that position on her back all by herself!
Hello Ruth,
Nathalie send my an e-mail that the Beertjes Zonn have arrived.
I am happy and thank you for your help!

you know, i always have the same problem with my hair when i get home – it’s just one of those things, I think. Yours still looks good, though, even The Day After. Gorgeous girl is looking really gorgeous – she looks a lot like you, actually
Hello Ruth,
Yesterday mailde Nathalie :
I just wanted to let you know that we have received the bears and some kids stationary! It is all wonderful, thank you!
Kind regards

I love carrying my kids on my back. I got a Beco carrier and now I can’t live without the thing.
What is your helper using for the wrap? I had a couple of dancers from Ghana teaching at my school a couple of years ago. Their toddler was getting fussy, and she just picked him up, put him on her back, and tied her jacket in a way that held him up. I was seriously impressed! Since then I’ve learned how to put my kid on my back myself too.
I have a hotsling, and it claims you can wear babies on your back with it, but I don’t think mine will stay in a sling anymore! I loved using it when he was little though.
My daughter & her husband are missionaries in South Africa (we are English) they have adopted two orphans and she carries them on her back like this (not together of course!) They love it.
