Life has been hectic, and a certain little miss seems to need more and more entertaining lately. Still I’ve managed to get a bit finished here and there.
First up, some spinning. This is my attempt at sock yarn. It is 3.35 ounces and 341 yards (95 grams and 312 metres) and is n-plied.

I need to spin up the second half for the second sock.
Recently I spun my first batt.

I enjoyed it so much that I’ve joined a local (South African) monthly fibre club to receive batts and fibre in the mail for three months. Ravelry is a wonderful thing.
Gorgeous Man is heading to Portland, Maine in just a few days time, and I wanted him to have something hand knit to keep him warm.

The maroon is handspun and the grey is commercial yarn held double. If I was to do it again I’d leave off the bottom stripes and do them at the top. The pattern is Turn a Square by Jared Flood. (Ravelry link).
On Sunday I had a birthday that now puts me closer to 40 than thirty
I had a lovely day even though I worked. Gorgeous Girl’s birthday is exactly a week before mine, and so she now thinks that birthdays happen often. Unfortunately for her this is a September/October birthday house and she has a long time to wait for the next one.

Happy birthday, Ruth! I just love what you’re doing with wool!!
Really nice spinning!
Wow, that sock wool looks so finely spun! Love the pink and silvery one, too. What’s n-ply?
Happy Birthday!!!
Happy Belated Birthday! Your spinning is gorgeous and I can wait to see the socks you make!
Happy birthday! I’ve got that same one coming up in a few months:-)
Love that sock yarn!
Whoa I am so totally hooked on your
blog! I recently retired (on the OTHER-
YIKES side of fifty…) and am trying to
get the ole fire under my butt going on
all the unfinished socks, scarves, quilts
and beading projects I started, and never
finished, while working a high stress job!
When I was young I had S.Africa on m
on my “Fantasy Trip Wish List,” but
as I got older I realized it wasn’t going to be like the movies. Ya know, orange sunset, strange trees, giraffe sillouettes and African
music playing when I got off the plane.
It would be more like oppressive heat,
a lot of sand and extremely large bugs to
send my bug phobia off the scale. Sooooo,
I now have your pictures and adventures, without the bugs and long plane rides!
My sister lived in Maine for 20 years, where in Maine did your Gorgeous Man go?!
Keep up the cool blog!

Belated Birthday wishes!!! I love the hat and wouldn’t change a thing! Great spinning too
