Well, my big news is that I have a new job. I’m working as a Customer Support Agent for an internet start-up. I get to telecommute (fancy-schmancy way of saying work from home) with regular trips into the office (which is Gorgeous Girl friendly). If you are interested in creating your own web-page ours is free and really easy to use. Leave me a comment and I’ll give you the links. I have blogging to thank, seriously I’d never have been confident enough with my computer skills 2 years ago.
Which brings me to even happier news. To celebrate my new job, and because I’m getting very close to 30 000 hits (who would have thought so many of you would read this little blog!) I’m going to have a giveaway.
To enter simply leave a comment on this post. This is a fabulous chance to de-lurk (just saying) I’d like to know where you come from and how you found my blog (if you can remember). I’d also like to know if you are a knitter, quilter or both.
I’ll get Gorgeous Girl to draw a winner next Thursday, I’ll have to be quick to get the winning number out of her hand before she puts it in her mouth 🙂 but I’m sure we can manage.
Up for grabs will be a prize tailored to the winner.
If you are a quilter I will send you a selection of South African indigo (shwe-shwe) and some other fabric and a little something made by my (hopefully I can finish it, what with my new job and all).
If you are a knitter there will be some yarn and a little something made by me.
I promise not to send any of you biltong 🙂 I still haven’t tried it and I’ve been here two years.
If you are both a knitter and a quilter you will receive a mix of goodies.
I will not be shopping or posting until the end of the month, given that I need to finish the little something, the car needed repairs today and I need to wait for pay day from my new job…
So, comment away…
Woohoo! Congrats on the new job! I’m so excited for you! I’d love some links to the free web site. I’m going to start javajem.com soon and I still haven’t designed it!
I think you already know – but I live in Maryland and found your blog… hmm I’m not sure how I found it. I think you may have found me and then I found you in return!
Congrats again!
Well done! A big decision, but a wonderful opportunity.
I think I found your blog through Kate, but I can’t be sure now. Anyway I’m really glad I did. Just wish I’d seen more of you in SA, but that would have required a lot more organisation on my part LOL.
I’m more a quilter, than a knitter. I’ve knitted quite a few beanies in my time :O), but that’s about it… I would be too scared to ever knit a sock, but they always look amazing.
Last night, I picked up my handquilting again. I have a few blocks left to do. How many do you still have? (can you tell I’m a bit competitive LOL)
Hi Ruth found you through my trusty wordpress tag surfer set for quilting and sewing etc and had given up looking for blogs on that as so many of the craft blogs are dead boring! Decided to try again a few months ago and found you straight away and being a fellow Aussie and dead nosy, the rest you know!
I quilt more than I knit but I do both!
Good luck with the work and car and finding a good childcare nurse if you need one. My job in another life!
Gosh, I wish I could say for sure how I came across your blog. I’m pretty sure it was on one of my ‘wandering’ days when I was just following links randomly through Interspace, boldly going where I’d never been before.
I’m psyched for your job. Sounds ideal! I’ll be looking forward to hearing how like it.
congrats on the new job!
Congratulations on your new job! Working from home what a delight.
I found your blog through Mona in Montreal. I am a self taught knitter and have been knitting for 49 years.
I’m sure I found you through my late night random craft blog surfing. Who knows, but I’m glad I did. First, KUDOS on the new job. I’m from Kansas City, midwest, USA, and quilty things would be my love!
Congrats on the new job! My brother was a big fan of the biltong I brought back from SA several years ago – veggie me didn’t give it a try. 30,000 hits – wow!
Yeah for the new job! I can’t remember if I found your blog through Knittymama or the Knitters Coffee Swap last year, but either way, I’m glad I did. 🙂 As you know, I’m a knitter who just *appreciates* quilting. Sewing is NOT my thing. I love reading your blog from the other side of the world in Minneapolis, Minnesota!!
By the way, thanks for your dahl recipe too. I bought a big bag of red lentils last night and can’t wait to make it. Glad you found the banana oatmeal cookie recipe timely…they really are yummy!
Congratulations on the new job! And how lucky to find something where you can work from home.
I haven’t had a chance to comment about the resolution of the guild problem–looks like that is working out too.
I don’t remember how I found your blog, but I certainly have enjoyed reading about what you are working on way over there across the ocean!
Ok, you’ve made me “De Lurk”. I’m in Texas and I knit. I’m teaching my co workers to knit. I love your photos and look forward to my visit to your blog. Not sure how I found your site, but it’s bookmarked so I can check in daily.
Congratulations on the new job, it sounds fantastic! I found you through Tracey-OzCountryQuiltingMum and actually first read your blog when GG was born. I enjoyed reading your blog for quite some time before I set mine up and left a comment for you. I am a quilter and stitcher. Thank you so much for sharing your life and craft and especially the beautiful photos of GG!
Congratulations on your new job!! I’m not sure how I found your blog — but I’ve been reading and really enjoying it. I’ve subscribed so that I don’t miss a post. I’m a quilter.
Congratulations on the new job Ruth, it’s the perfect mix, working from home and being a Mum. Trust me, I know!
And congratulations also on your big milestone, it has be so much fun getting to know you.
*hugs*
Tazzie
🙂
Well I’m hardly a lurker, but I’m not missing a chance at something made by you! As you know, I’m a knitter from NY, and I found you through the Favorite Color Swap several years ago!
Congratulations on the new job!
Hmm, I’m not sure how I found your site. I think you left a comment on my blog, and I got here from there. You know where I live.
I heard something on the radio today about the power company in South Africa wanting to raise rates by 60%. I know you’ve had issues with the electric. Can’t imagine this is making people there happy.
Hmm let me see, how did I find you? I believe it was through a mutual friend. I am not sure how the friendship started, it just seemed to happen (which to me is the best kind). We lost contact for a while and then the mutual friend had you turn up at the same place I was (even though it was for only a short time). You then got whisked away to South Africa but we still kept in touch. You introduced me to blogging and that is really where we are at now.
Hello, congrats on the new job, its nice to hear you excited. Now onto more important stuff. WHAT you have never tried biltong. Its the best, you have no idea what you are missing. Divine stuff, I could eat a LOT of it.
PS. I’m a knitter and I found your site, but searching for SA knitting bloggers 🙂
Congradulations on your new job!!
Well how did we meet? I think it was because you found my blog and left a comment. I also remember that we met (exchanged e-mails) while you were pregnant. I hope my memory serves me well. I’m not that sure of myself.
Anyway I love reading your blog, reading about your quild adventures/encounters and seeing how Gorgeous Girl is growing.
We have the same background, aussies living in a different country, away from home. And, we have quilting in common!! Keep up the good work (blog). Hoping that Gorgeous Girl picks me!! 🙂
Congratulations on your new job 🙂
Yay! I’m so proud of you and happy for you. Working from home in your jammies is hard to beat. ;^)
I think you found me and I followed you back. I think. I don’t know it’s been a while now.
*hugs*
In all honesty, I can’t remember if I found you or you found me
(you had just moved), but I am certainly glad it happened! I knit, of course, and I’ve made one little doll quilt. I think there is more quilting in my future but it’s just going to have to wait until I have more time!
Biggest congratulations on your new job! Now I am going to find out what “biltong” is…
I found your tutorial for a Double Pointed Needle Case on the Sew Mama Sew website. Thank you for the easy to follow tutorial. I would love to be entered in your contest. Congrats on your new job. It sounds exciting!
Since we’ll be moving soon I can’t/shouldn’t enter your giveaway, but I want to say congratulations on getting a new job.
I like biltong, so wondering what are your reasons for not even trying it 🙂
And I found your blog via Starfish.
Hi Ruth,
I’m so glad to hear about the job … congratulations!
I commented once before, but I’m usually very much of a lurker. I found your blog by doing a search for South African blogs, knitting etc. because I was originally from southern Africa (Zambia, Zimbabwe and then went to university in SA.) I still have family in SA. As an added bonus I also discovered you are Australian, and my sister and her family live there now. You also love to read and I do too. I live in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
I knit but I have sewn a lot in the past and still have a fabric stash from those days (oh, the stash addictions!)
I enjoy your blog, check on it several times a week, and I love your pictures of GG. What beautiful eyes! Enjoy every second of her, but I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that.
By the way, biltong is well worth a try!
Well done with the job!! I’m delurking from east Texas and I knit(a little, mostly crochet) and quilt(much more). I found your blog just at the time you were having gorgeous girl troubles at the guild meetings. Glad that got solved! Can’t recall how I found you, it was most definitely from a comment you left to someone else but I don’t remember who.
Molly
How exciting a new job and a blogging milestone. I am a quilter who lives in Niagara Falls, one of the wonders of the world. Thanks for the chance at your giveaway and may your new job be all you want it to be.
Consider me a quilter when (oops!) I mean if I get to win, lol. I knit only intermittantly, when it’s cool…which isn’t too often here in the US desert. I also hook wool rugs.
I’ve been reading your blog for awhile, even before Miss Gorgeous was born! I have no clue how I was luck enough to find you.
Congrats on your job. Coincidentally, my dd#1 just landed herself a web-designer job with a start-up as well.
Take care, hug the baby for me!
Hi! I am Jane and I found your blog through reading Javajem’s blog. (I actually got to meet her recently!)
I too live in Maryland and I am a knitter. I just started knitting about a year and half ago and I really enjoy blogs becasue they give me lots of valuable information!
I love your blog, other than the knitting and quilting info, for all the information and photos of South Africa. I really enjoy learning about somewhere I have never been!
Thanks for making me de-lurk and thank you for your blog!
Jane
I’m in 🙂 Live here hasn’t be easy, i’ve had some really bad news from Portugal, so that is why i’m beihind the comments. Hope to do a update in the blog this week. Have a nice weekend.
So happy for you on the new job!!! It sounds like a good one:-)
I’m in Minneapolis, MN, USA. And I’m pretty sure I found you in the first coffeeswap, right? Wow, that’s a couple years already!

Me! Me! I’m a knitter. Sadly, not a quilter. I think one craft is all I can manage. But if you wanted to send me one of your quilts…
I can’t remember how I found you really, I think you might have commented and I checked out your blog and really liked it 🙂 Glad I’ve gotten to get “know” you online and have had some fun swaps with you!
As you know, I am a quilter and a knitter, and love me some shwe shwe (though really now I might have reached my quota!!
Congratulations on the job!
Hi Ruth,
What do you mean you haven’t tried biltong yet!?!?!? Do you eat the dried sausage (droe wors)?
Can Gorgeous Girl be bribed to draw my name – LOL. I would love to get some Shwe Shwe prints …….
Take care,
Gail
Hi Ruth,
I’m a lurker on your site and read about you and Gorgeous Girl (love that name!) whenevery you pop-up in the tag surfer. Congrats on the new job, whoohoo!!
Autumn
I knew you would get it!! Congratulations!!!
And great that it is stay at home Mum friendly as well!!
Also congrats on the 30000 hits, what fun this is!
Now, how did I find you? I think you found me first and then I tracked you down…that was very early on!! Well before Araminta was even the twinkle!! And now she looks gorgeous in your knitting. Have a great day, love this technophobe!! Tracey
Hi Ruth,
I feel kind of funny entering this but still here I am and the chances of me winning are not all that high. I found you through wordpress and I am so so happy I did. I have really enjoy sharing my pregnancy and birth with you and yours and I feel inspired by your entries all the time. GG has a half made gift sitting in the shed in a box somewhere (lucky it’s an 18 month size – I must have know we were destined to move) for next summer that will reach you before then….I hope!
I hope you have lots of “de-lurkers”, it’s kind of fun seeing who’s out there!
Stay well and don’t work too hard!
rebecca
I think I found you through someone else’s blog.
I am a knitter but have recently started quilting which I’m loving.
Well done on getting the job! Hope it goes well.
Love to GG.
Congrats on the new job!
I think you found my blog first and that’s how I made my way to yours.
I’m a quilter and a novice knitter. I love the jumper you knit for GG – it’s encouraging me to pick up the needles and see if I can manage to knit one (baby sized, of course!). My knitting repetoire consists mostly of socks and felted clogs and the odd scarf and hat but I’m gathering courage to try a child sized garment… who can resist the lure of beautiful handknits?
Congrats on the job Ruth. I can’t honestly remember how I came across your blog. Perhaps from a comment you left on mine. Love the latest photo’s of GG, my how she’s growing…..
Congratulations on your new job! It sounds perfect for you right now!
No clue on how I found your blog. That would require a memory. 🙂
Congrats on the job; I know I’ve said it before, but hey. I think you know where I’m from and as for how I first came here, I honestly couldn’t say. It might have been from Cathi’s blog. I’m sure it was from SOMEONE’S blog 🙂 I think I first started commenting when you showed us a scan of GG, but I’d been lurking quite a while before that…
Hey Ruth… congrats on your new job… sorry I haven’t been around much… since we are one person down I get so busy with work etc and want to catch up but sometimes… time gets away… so I had a few seconds and thought I would catch up with you to see what you were up to… hope that everything is treating you well… oh thanks for the history lesson… funny what you are taught in school compared to what really happened… but hey… I am up for a history lesson on anything at anytime… take care
Congratulations on your new job!
