We’ve had great weather here for the last few days. Lovely blue sunny skies, warm weather…
Yesterday was such a nice day that on the way home from work we decided to have a picnic dinner at Gordon’s Bay. There’s a nice foreshore area there with grass and benches. We made a quick stop at Woolworths (unlike Australia, Woolworths here sell gourmet food and very nice clothes and homeware), for some buns and some beef pastrami. Then we made a few beef and salad rolls, grabbed the world’s best chocolate (got to be dark though) and headed out.
It was a great idea, but rather windy
We then spent an hour or so perusing a great book-exchange/second hand book store that is on the main road. Gorgeous Man is very pleased with himself as he picked up a hardcover book of South African frogs, complete with the original lp records of their calls for R8. As he gleefully pointed out to me this is about $1.50 Australian. I refrained from pointing out that we no longer earn Aussie dollars (actually, I may have mentioned it), but even in Rand he got a huge bargain.
Here are the two finished objects which I finished sewing up last night. I was going to have a June baby and here that is winter, so I thought this would be a lovely coming home from the hospital outfit.
See, nicely gender neutral since we weren’t going to find out sex. The next baby may be born at a time where it can wear the outfit. If it can’t, then no great loss – I’ll keep it in the memory box along with the pregnancy test and the discharge papers from the hospital as a reminder of the child that didn’t make it. Given the history to these items I don’t think I’m able to give them to charity.
I love the way that the colour pooled into the rough diamond shapes on the jumper. This microfibre made in Turkey with German on the labels, it is very, very soft and I loved knitting with it. There’s enough left over for a pair of booties, or socks if I can get my head around knitting in the round on something that small.
I’ve started knitting with the yarn from Stephanie that she dyed herself and sent me as part of the favourite colour swap. I am loving, loving, loving the way that the colours are coming together. I love variegated yarn and yarn that has flecks in it. It’s got to be a pretty spectacular plain yarn for me to get really into it.
Once I can tear myself away from it – item should be finished in a few days at the rate I’m knitting it, I’ll get back to the aqqlique quilt. The braincells are feeling strong enough to handle learning new things now.
What a lovely picture of you at the beach!
Yea for the FOs! I like the way the colors pooled on the sweater, too. I hope your next baby will be the right size at the right time to wear the outfit because it’s so cute. Putting it in the memory box is a nice idea, too.
The picnic sounds like fun. The little set is beautiful – I love the way it becomes plaid.
Love the beach photo and the amazing scenery in the back. What a beautiful place! The baby sweater and hat are darling and I also love the way the colors made a pattern for you. Hold on to it and see what happens. I wouldn’t give it away either. 🙂
Great pic of you! And the landscape behind you is brilliant!
The sweater and hat is very sweet! I’m sure it will come in handy in the future!
What a great photo! It must have been a wonderful picnic. The beach and mountains in the background look so inviting!
I remember you showing us that yarn when you bought it. It made such a sweet little set. The color pooling almost looks like a plaid on the bias.
Wow, your little sweater set is so amazing. I like the color pooling too. Gorgeous man and my hubby should get together. I can totally see my husband buying a book on frogs. heh heh.
The baby set is lovely especially the diamonds. The picnic dinner sounded yummy good.
So glad you and Gorgeous Man had a picnic dinner at the beach. What a lovely idea.
The little babys outfit is beautiful.
Sounds like a great day, and the sweater and hat are beautiful.
Dear, Ruth, Lindt certainly has some great tasting chocolate, but is by many many many miles not the worlds best chocolate. It`s a massed produced product and suffers dearly in quality. If I may be so bold I suggest you try Valhrona, Pralus or Poulain to name but three well known chocloates. They are all French. The Belgians a Swiss have no idea of chocolate, they are name-based rip-offs. The official best chocolate in the world is actually a Mexican variety, so happy hunting!
Ruth – what a great idea to keep that beautiful little outfit as a memory of your little one.
I see that we have the same taste in chocolate!
Love the orange outfit – so cool the way it came out plaid like. Very nice!
